Portable Solar Panels

Portable solar panels is being applied and utilized in many ways and circumstances. Three main areas of application are for military use, search and rescue operations and outdoor leisure. All these applications require mobility. That means light weight and flexibility in the use of the product.

It is now possible to go on a camp in a very remote area and have all the luxuries of devices reliable on electricity to operate. Think of phones, radios, GPS, computers, etcetera. In the past some of these devices were powered by vehicles but what will happen when the vehicle failed or the vehicle wasn’t close by such as remote places.

Thanks to technology that is making solar panels available that can be rolled into small light weight bundles and carried by one person. Solar panels are also getting build into the sides and backs of camping gear and tents to run small appliances such as cell phones, iPads and charging rechargeable batteries for other small devices.
It is not common to see a small solar panel in a window sill charging a flash light or drip charge batteries for a camera or GPS system. These handy charging devices are common items in today’s homes.

The portability makes it possible to connect more than one solar panel together to form a system with higher power output to power appliances and equipment such as many lights, stoves and microwave ovens in the home. Flexible panels can also be used in serie to provide sufficient power output instead of using heavier batteries as power source. The flexibility and source of electricity from renewable sources takes preference.

The constant growth of users of portable solar panels is also the source of funding for more research and development that should result in cheaper and more efficient solar cells.
